    History

The Borra Caves are believed to be millions of years old, formed by the continuous flow of water over limestone rocks. Local legends speak of a cowherd who discovered the caves while searching for his lost cattle. He found a Shiva Lingam inside, and the villagers started worshipping it, considering the caves sacred. In 1807, William King, a British geologist, explored the caves and brought them to wider attention. Since then, the caves have become a popular tourist destination. Over time, the caves have been developed with walkways and lighting to make them accessible to visitors, while preserving their natural beauty.
