Shiva Dol was built during the reign of the Ahom king, Swargadeo Siba Singha, in the 18th century (1734 AD). The Ahom dynasty, who ruled Assam for nearly 600 years, were patrons of art and architecture, and this temple complex is a testament to their legacy. Queen Ambika, the king's consort, played a significant role in the construction of these temples. The Shiva Dol is the tallest of the three temples and is considered to be one of the highest Shiva temples in India. The temples were built using bricks and lime mortar and showcase the unique Ahom style of temple architecture, which is a blend of local and Mughal influences. The complex has been a center of religious and cultural activities for centuries.
