The Rose Garden was established in 1967 under the guidance of Dr. M.S. Randhawa, Chandigarh's first Chief Commissioner. His vision was to create a dedicated space showcasing the beauty and variety of roses. The garden was named after Zakir Hussain, the former President of India. Over the years, the garden has evolved into one of Asia's largest rose gardens, attracting tourists and botany enthusiasts from around the world. The initial collection of roses was carefully curated from various regions, and continuous efforts have been made to introduce new varieties and maintain the garden's high standards. The annual Rose Festival, which started in the 1970s, has further enhanced the garden's popularity, showcasing the best of its floral displays and attracting large crowds.
