Construction of the Red Fort began in 1639 and was completed in 1648 under the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It served as the capital of the Mughal Empire until 1857. The fort's design, led by architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, showcases a blend of Islamic, Persian, Timurid, and Hindu architectural styles. Originally red and white, the fort acquired its characteristic red color later. After the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the British occupied the fort and significantly altered its structures. Today, the Red Fort stands as a symbol of India's rich history and resilience, playing host to the annual Independence Day celebrations.
Good place to visit for family, Tuesday to Sunday Open , Monday holiday. ₹35 ticket for one person child entry free. Free TOILET and DRINKING WATER AVILABLE. Canteen is also ther bit costly as its tourist place.
Great Site, but avoid during sunny days. Maintained heritage site. There is a canteen inside. Rs 50/- only for the fort and If you want to visit museum as well then it will be Rs 80/-
The fort's architecture and well-preserved structures offer a glimpse into the past, making it a great spot for history enthusiasts. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, providing excellent opportunities for photography and nature walks. It's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the visit for anyone interested in history and nature.
Iconic place, would recommend if you're in Delhi. You can get a guided tour from the guides on site, but would recommend arranging one through your hotel. Gets pretty crowded during weekends, and the public stares but that's part of being in India. They also have pretty good restaurant on site.
