Commissioned by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890, Laxmi Vilas Palace was designed by Major Charles Mant. It took twelve years to complete and was one of the most expensive private residences of its time. The palace served as the residence of the Gaekwad family and witnessed numerous historical events. It is a blend of various architectural styles with influences from Mughal, Rajput, and European designs. Today, a portion of the palace is open to the public, allowing visitors to explore its rich history and admire its artistic beauty. The palace continues to be a symbol of Vadodara's royal past.
