    History

The history of Khajjiar isn't deeply rooted in grand historical events but more in its natural beauty and spiritual significance. The name 'Khajjiar' is derived from 'Khajji Nag,' the deity of the temple located on the banks of the lake. The Khajji Nag temple is believed to be centuries old and is dedicated to the serpent god. In more recent times, Khajjiar gained prominence as a tourist destination, particularly after being promoted as 'Mini Switzerland' by Willy T. Blazer, the Vice-Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland to India in 1992. He erected a stone marking Khajjiar's geographic resemblance to Switzerland, further boosting its popularity.
