Nicholas Roerich, a Russian painter, writer, archaeologist, and philosopher, arrived in Kullu Valley in 1928 and established his estate in Naggar. He was deeply inspired by the Himalayas, which became a central theme in his art. The Roerich Art Gallery was established to preserve and showcase his artistic legacy. After his death in 1947, his son Svetoslav Roerich and daughter-in-law Devika Rani continued to maintain the estate and promote Roerich's art. The gallery has since become a significant cultural institution, attracting visitors from around the world. It provides insights into Roerich's life, his artistic journey, and his profound spiritual beliefs. The Roerich Estate, including the gallery, continues to be managed by a trust dedicated to preserving the Roerichs' heritage.
