The Lakshmi Narasimha statue was commissioned by Krishnadevaraya, one of the most famous rulers of the Vijayanagara Empire, in 1528 AD. It was built to honor Lord Narasimha, a powerful and protective deity. The original statue included Lakshmi seated on Narasimha's lap, symbolizing prosperity and divine union. However, the statue was vandalized during the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire in 1565. The Lakshmi statue was damaged, and only the Narasimha statue remains intact. Despite the damage, the statue stands as a testament to the artistic skills and religious devotion of the Vijayanagara artisans.
