Kannappan was murdered for her precious stone which she got from Devi. Goddess then appeared to the Brahmin family who murdered her and cursed them. Later, the idol of the Goddess was found at the spot where Kannappan was buried. Another legend speaks of a lower-caste devotee who received divine blessings and was elevated in status.
