Established in 1981 with the primary goal of conserving the Great Indian Bustard, Karera Bird Sanctuary was once a thriving ecosystem. The area was carefully chosen due to its suitability as a habitat for this endangered species. Initial years saw successful breeding programs and an increase in the bustard population. However, over time, factors such as habitat degradation due to agricultural expansion, overgrazing, and changes in land use patterns have negatively impacted the sanctuary. The Great Indian Bustard population has significantly declined, and other bird species have also been affected. Conservation efforts are ongoing to restore the habitat and attract birds back to the sanctuary. The sanctuary's history serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in wildlife conservation and the importance of sustainable practices.
