Dr. Dinkar G. Kelkar, deeply affected by the loss of his son Raja, began collecting artifacts as a way to cope with his grief. What started as a personal endeavor soon blossomed into a lifelong passion. Over several decades, Kelkar meticulously amassed a diverse collection, traveling extensively throughout India to acquire unique and historically significant items. In 1962, he formally established the museum, dedicating it to the memory of his son. The museum was later handed over to the Government of Maharashtra in 1975 to ensure its preservation and accessibility for future generations. Today, it stands as a testament to one man's dedication and a remarkable window into India's artistic and cultural past.
