Commissioned in the early 19th century by Guman Chand Patwa, a wealthy banker and trader, Patwon Ki Haveli took over 50 years to complete. It was built for his five sons, with each Haveli representing a separate residence. The Patwa family were prominent figures in Jaisalmer's thriving trade routes, dealing in textiles, gold, and opium. Their wealth and influence are reflected in the grandeur and extravagance of the Haveli's architecture. Over time, the family's fortunes declined, and they eventually abandoned the Haveli. Despite its abandonment, the complex has been remarkably preserved, offering a tangible connection to Jaisalmer's prosperous past. Today, it stands as a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the region.
