    History

Edward Elliot's Beach is named after Edward Elliot, who was the Chief Magistrate and Superintendent of Police during the British Raj. In the early 20th century, it was primarily frequented by the British. The Karl Schmidt Memorial, an important structure on the beach, was erected in memory of a Dutch sailor who lost his life saving others from drowning. Over time, the beach transitioned from a colonial-era haunt to a popular public space for Chennai residents. Today, it stands as a testament to the city's evolving culture, blending its colonial past with its vibrant present.

This is a very beautiful beach in Chennai City. The beach is more clean compared to Marira Beach but still there is a lot of garbage dumped here. If we clean this place, this can be one of best and most beautiful beaches in the region. Lots of shops and garbage being left on the beach is really painful to see. However, the view and the experience is very nice and wonderful. I really hope people keep this clean and this becomes one of best and most beautiful beaches in the city.

Visited Edward beach in the morning time . Less crowded and a soul-soothing experience. The soft light of sunrise looks really beautiful. The air is fresh and crisp, carrying the mild scent of the sea. The beach is peaceful, Walking barefoot on the cool, damp sand feels grounding. Feel perfect to relax, reflect, or simply enjoy the serene beauty of nature. There are a lot of shops which shows that evening should be very vibrant.

More crowded on weekends.. Parking for bike will be easier than car. Ferris wheel and many rides are available on some occasions or public holidays. Many good restaurants and foods to try.

Compared to Marina Beach, this beach is good. When I went to Marina, I felt so tired and did not feel the beach vibe and peace. Many recommended Edward Beach to me. When I went there, the atmosphere was stunning; the road leading to the beach is green and shady, and I love it. The Annie Besant Theosophical Society headquarters is located along the beach and the road, which is why there are peaceful and old large trees. As for the beach, the vibe is great and enjoyable. However, if you want a relaxing and peaceful beach, this is not the place for you. It's crowded. The only downside is that since the beach is located far from city areas like Anna Nagar, Koyambedu, and Vadapalani, you may face transportation problems, and the auto drivers here are quite rude and demanding. As it gets dark, the place becomes dangerous; there is no transportation available, and I recommend leaving the area before dark if you do not have your own transport.
