Originally built by Motilal Nehru in the early 20th century, Swaraj Bhavan witnessed pivotal moments in India's struggle for independence. It served as a hub for political discussions, meetings, and planning sessions involving prominent leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. In 1930, Motilal Nehru donated the house to the Indian National Congress, renaming it Swaraj Bhavan, meaning 'Abode of Independence'. A new house, Anand Bhavan, was constructed next to it for the Nehru family's residence. After independence, Swaraj Bhavan was converted into a museum to showcase the history of the freedom movement and the Nehru family's role in it. The museum continues to inspire visitors with its collection of historical artifacts and stories of sacrifice and dedication.
