Kempty Falls is believed to have derived its name from 'Camp-tea', referring to the British tea parties organized here during the colonial era. Developed as a tourist destination in the mid-19th century by a British officer, John Mekinan, it quickly gained popularity as a picnic spot. Initially, the area was used for organizing tea parties and social gatherings, and over time, it evolved into a major tourist attraction with facilities developed for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the falls.
