    About Chintamani Temple

Chintamani at Theur is the fifth shrine of the Ashta Vinayak and the most conveniently located, just 25 km from Pune city. 'Chintamani' refers to the legendary divine wish-fulfilling jewel, and Ganesha here is worshipped as the one who grants relief from all chinta (worries) and troubles. According to mythology, Ganesha recovered this jewel from the sage Kapila after a dispute and gave it back to Brahmadev. The Mula-Mutha river flows alongside the temple; the evening aarti against the river backdrop is particularly serene.

Peshwa Madhavrao I (1745–1772) was a devoted worshipper of Chintamani and spent considerable time here. His memorial (samadhi) is located right next to the temple. The Peshwa family donated significant land and resources to the temple.
