Humayun's Tomb was commissioned by Empress Bega Begum nine years after the death of Emperor Humayun in 1556. Its construction, completed in 1572, marked a significant departure from the earlier Lodi-style tombs. Designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, a Persian architect, it became the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent and inspired several subsequent Mughal architectural marvels, most notably the Taj Mahal. The tomb complex, which suffered neglect over centuries, underwent extensive restoration work by the Archaeological Survey of India in the early 20th century, restoring it to its former grandeur.
Safdarjung's Tomb is a tranquil oasis nestled amidst the bustling city of Delhi. The monument, a magnificent red sandstone structure, is surrounded by lush gardens and a peaceful lake. The intricate carvings and delicate details of the tomb are a testament to the architectural brilliance of its time. The serene atmosphere of the tomb is enhanced by the gentle rustling of leaves and the soothing sounds of nature. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the gardens, taking in the beauty of the surroundings. The tomb is a perfect place to escape the noise and chaos of the city and find a moment of tranquility.

It's a beautiful place to visit with family/ friends. The best time to visit this tomb is either early morning (around 8:00am) or late afternoon (around 4:00pm), especially during summers. This is the time when the place is not crowded. Things you should know before visiting Humayun Tomb - # It will take around 2-3hrs to visit the whole tomb so plan accordingly. # Wear comfortable footwear. # Enough parking space is available. # Food items are not at all allowed inside the campus, even when packed in lunch boxes. # Carry reusable water bottles as the place is huge & water is needed. Water refilling stations are available inside the campus. # Baby care room is there inside the campus, if needed. # If visiting with kids, carry ball, flying disc etc, as the tomb is surrounded by big, beautiful & well manicured gardens. Kids love to play in grass 😊 Enjoy!!
Lots of history surrounding this place. The architecture stands out, and the precision that the tombs are set up is nothing short of perfection. Especially the tomb in the front. Every detail is well thought out and has a purpose of why and where the things are built and placed. I would definitely recommend for visitors to see and not miss out. If you are a foreigner, I would not book the tickets early in advance unless you're a resident of India. That line is always busy.
