Constructed in 1740s by Maharaja Abhay Singh’s Queen, Toorji, this stepwell was more than just a water source; it was a social and cultural hub for the community. Stepwells were traditionally commissioned by royal women. However, with changing times and modern water systems, Toorji Ka Jhalra fell into disrepair and was filled with waste and debris. In 2005, a restoration project was undertaken to revive this architectural gem. The project involved removing tons of waste, repairing the structure, and restoring its original glory. Today, Toorji Ka Jhalra stands as a testament to Jodhpur's rich heritage and the successful efforts to preserve it.
