Krishna (Dwarkadhish)
The Dwarkadhish Temple (Jagat Mandir) at Dwarka is one of the four Char Dhams, dedicated to Krishna as the Lord of Dwarka — his legendary western kingdom on the Arabian Sea coast. The main deity Dwarkadhish is adorned with 72-column pillars supporting the 5-storey shikhara rising 43 m. Dwarka combines Char Dham, a Jyotirlinga (Nageshwar), and the ancient submerged city archeologically excavated offshore — making it one of India's densest sacred zones. Bet Dwarka island (where Krishna actually lived) is a short boat ride away.
The original Dwarka was said to have been built by Vishwakarma at Krishna's request. The present temple, called 'Jagat Mandir' (Temple of the World), dates to the 15th–16th century. Archaeological excavations in the Gulf of Khambhat suggest a submerged settlement consistent with the Mahabharata-era dates.
