Dona Paula is named after Dona Paula de Meneses, the wife of a Portuguese nobleman. Legend has it that she was a woman of great beauty and kindness who tragically died at a young age. Grief-stricken, her husband built a mausoleum in her honor, which is said to be located near the present-day Dona Paula Jetty. Over time, the area became known as Dona Paula.
Nice place for tourists and the jetty is a magnet, wish the area was not so commercialized though.
We visited the Dona Paula viewpoint during our trip to Goa, and it instantly captivated us with its stunning vistas. Standing atop the cliff, we were treated to panoramic views of the shimmering sea below, where the Zuari and Mandovi rivers meet. The cool sea breeze and the sound of waves crashing against the shore created a serene ambiance, perfect for a leisurely afternoon. As we explored the area, we couldn't help but admire the array of colorful handicrafts and savory snacks offered by local vendors.
This beach offers great views of the sea and the waterfront. The shoreline is filled with greenery. There are a number of kiosks selling items like beachwear, souvenirs and refreshments. Visited the beach at around 11 am, found it to be crowded with tourists. So the best time to enjoy the beauty of the beach is during the early morning hours when it remains less crowded.
