The National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore, was inaugurated on February 18, 2009. It is one of the two branches of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The Bangalore branch is housed in a renovated colonial-era building, 'Manikyavelu Mansion', originally constructed in the early 20th century. The building retains its architectural charm while providing modern exhibition spaces. Over the years, the NGMA Bangalore has expanded its collection through acquisitions and donations, showcasing a diverse range of Indian art from the late 19th century to the present day.
The museum offered a perfect balance of calm reflection and inspiration, reminding me of the power of art to connect us all. By the time I left, I felt both refreshed and deeply moved by the experience. There's a library inside.
Very well maintained museum and an art gallery. If you're seriously looking into exploring it, it will take approximately 2 hours. It is located in the midst of the lush green and busy city and yet seems to emanate a serene and calm aura. There is ample description provided at appropriate intervals making one grounded to the history of Nandalal Bose and his artistic achievements. Moreover, there is an audio guide tour app which can be scanned there and gives a holistic and in-depth explanation to the paintings and its link to the painter's personal life history and the nation's independence movement. Additionally, there is a sculpture and painting exhibit of various artists who contributed to our art and culture. There are lectures held which are free to attend and interact with fellow art and history enthusiasts.
I love art so I went to this place with my friend and that time was really worth it. Tickets are also very cheap here so if you love art then you must visit here and if you love a good design house then also you must visit here once.
Absolutely beautiful setting and even more beautiful paintings and sculptures. If you read everything like me, you can easily spend ~2 hours here. It’s a sort-of oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommend!
