    History

The falls are said to have been discovered by a Portuguese explorer in the 16th century. Local legends tell of a princess who bathed in a lake at the top of the falls. One day, while bathing, she noticed a prince watching her. To protect her modesty, she poured a jug of milk in front of him, creating a curtain of white. This is how the falls got their name, Dudhsagar, which means "Sea of Milk". The falls have been featured in several Bollywood films, further enhancing their popularity.

Dudhsagar Falls is one of India's most magnificent and iconic waterfalls, located on the Mandovi River in the Indian state of Goa. It's often called the "Sea of Milk" due to its milky white appearance when viewed from a distance. The waterfall is especially impressive during the monsoon season when the water flow is at its peak, cascading down from a height of over 300 meters. The journey to Dudhsagar Falls can be quite an adventure. One popular way to reach the falls is by trekking through the lush forests, which can be a thrilling experience, especially if you enjoy nature and hiking. Alternatively, you can take a train ride that offers a scenic view of the falls as the train passes by.The sight of the water gushing down the rocks, surrounded by dense greenery, is truly mesmerizing. If you're lucky, you might even catch a rainbow forming in the mist created by the waterfall. The area is a haven for nature lovers and photographers alike.

One of the most scintillating falls with fantastic views. But unfortunately there's total lack of amenities like washrooms. No food stalls. Trail is also risky as railway track has to be compulsorily used to reach destination. One cannot understand why visitors are allowed by forest department but are left to the mercy of nature vagaries and risks.
